The paper discusses the theme of literary works by using a novel form of intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. Through the instrinsic approach there is applied the concepts: characterization, setting, and plot. And through extrinsic approach there is applied Guilty Feeling concept. This study is the variety of qualitative research, types of literature research, nature interpretative/analytical methods of data collection in the form of literary texts from the novel The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy as the primary source and is supported by some literatures related to the concept and the definition relevant as a secondary
source.
