Letter writing : theory and practice
Letter-writing is undoubtedly an art. Very often we come across situations in life when we feel that our ideas are better written than spoken. For, to the reader a letter provides a variety of feelings - excitement, encouragement, comfort and solace depending upon the nature of the letter and the occasion in question. A century or more ago when travel was slower and less frequent and when distance and absence were much more 'real' than they are now, people paid more attention to letter-writing and wrote with more care than they do now; nonetheless letter-writing as an art lives and will continue to live. Modern people may perhaps feel that writing letters has become an item of business routine or a necessity of social life. It is all a question of 'attitudes'. The importance of letter-writing can not be underestimated. It is therefore necessary to pay adequate attention to the form and method of modern letter-writing.
