Racial Injustice Against Minorities In Movie Script The Hate U Give (2018) by George Tillman Jr.
This research is about racial injustice in The Hate U Give Movie Script from the main characters in the movie using intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. The intrinsic approach uses to analyze data such as: Characterization, Plot, and Setting. Through the extrinsic approach uses to apply the concept of racism and justice that changed into injustice that appear in this script. The qualitative approach used in this research, types of library research, use the method of data collection from the literary texts from the movie script The Hate U Give by George Tillman Jr. as a primary source and supported by some related previous studies, books, theories, and journals as secondary source. The result of this research are racial injustice against minorities. This movie script is only focus on one person, Starr carter, supported by one character, Khalil Harris who got shot by a white officer. Lived in black neighborhood but schooled on pre-dominant white, times already changed but some people still discriminate her race. After her best friend got shot, Starr stressed out and being inconfident when asked about the scene. Time goes on, family especially her dad encourage her to shine her light. In the end Starr get her confident back and speak up against injustice and discrimination. It can be concluded that the main character in racial injustice in The Hate U Give Movie Script shows 2 types of racism and 3 other types of injustice based on the racism and justice concepts.
