Gottlieb’s Subtitling Strategies Used In "A Man Called Otto" (2022) Movie Script By David Magee
This study aims to analyze the dialogue in the movie script by using the theory of subtitling strategies by Gottlieb (1992). This research used a qualitative approach. This research was conducted using the descriptive qualitative method because it is suitable for analyzing the phenomenon of audiovisual translation. The research object in this research is the movie script "A Man Called Otto" (2022) by David Magee. The data of this research are sentences or utterances from the “A Man Called Otto” Movie Script in English and Indonesian Language. In total, there are 94 data have been analyzed. The paraphrase strategy consists of 16 data. The second strategy is transfer which consists of 28 data. The third strategy is imitation strategy which consists of 7 data. The fourth strategy is condensation strategy which consists of 9 data. The fifth strategy is transcription strategy which consists of 4 data. The sixth strategy is expansion strategy. This strategy consists of 5 data. The next one is decimation strategy. Decimation strategy consists of 2 data. After that, there is a deletion strategy that consists of 22 data. The last one is the resignation strategy. Resignation strategy consists of 2 data. The most used strategy in the movie script "A Man Called Otto" is transfer which consists of 28 out of 94 data. The translator retained the structure of the source text and made no additions. This strategy is often used in movie script because the target language is readable and does not change the meaning.
