The Analysis Of Illocutionary Act In The Movie Script “Clouds” (2020) By Justin Baldoni
This research aims to analyze speech acts in movie script using a pragmatic approach. I analyzed the types of illocutionary speech acts conveyed by all the characters in the "Clouds" (2020) by Justin Baldoni through the movie script. This movie is a drama, romance, musical genre. In this research, I analyzed five types of illocutionary speech acts based on Searle's theory: assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declaration. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods to analyze illocutionary speech acts and analyzes them individually because this research was taken through movie scripts. The results of this research are that there are 62 illocutionary speech act data. The first assertive illocutionary speech act has 35 data, the second directive illocutionary speech act has 11 data, the third commissive illocutionary speech act has 5 data, the fourth expressive illocutionary speech act has 8 data, and the fifth directive speech act has 3 data. Based on the results of the analysis, the dominant type of the illocutionary act is assertive speech acts, and all illocutionary speech acts are used by all characters in the movie script "Clouds" (2020) by Justin Baldoni.
