Gender Inequality And Feminism In The Movie Script The Woman King (2022)
This research discusses the phenomenom of gender inequality and feminism in the film script The Woman King (2022). The research was conducted based on the concepts and theories of literary sociology to analyze sociological problems including the problem of gender inequality. The film script for The Woman King, written by Dana Stevens and Maria Bello, tells the story of Agojie, a unit of female soldiers who protected the Kingdom of Dahomey in West Africa in the 17th to 19th centuries. The problems of human trafficking, sexual violence against women, and family patriarchy in Africa are some of the social problems raised in this film. This research discusses literary works using intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. An intrinsic approach is used to analyze characterization, plot and setting. An extrinsic approach is used to analyze manifestations of gender inequality and feminist theory through characterization, plot and setting. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method because this research aims to describe social phenomena, especially gender inequality. Then, the feminist theory seen in this research is liberal feminism through characterization, plot and setting.The research was carried out using library research, interpretive analysis using data collection methods and content analysis of the film script. The main source of data is the film script The Woman King (2022) by Dana Stevens and Maria Bello, and is supported by several theories, concepts and definitions of relevant literature as secondary sources. The results of the research are types of gender inequality, namely marginalization, subordination, stereotypes and violations, seen through characterization, plot and setting. Based on the discussion connected with related theories, the characters Nanisca, Nawi and other characters shown in the plot and setting reflect conditions of gender inequality and liberal feminism.
